Sh2-155, S-II channel added




I Managed to use two hours clear window to shot S-II
channel last night.
After that it's possible to make a real three colour narrowband composition.
Here precented as a Hubble palette, S-II = RED, H-a = GREEN and O-III = BLUE.
Imaging details are same, than in previous post,
just S-II information is added, 3 X 1200s.

Sh2-155, The Cave Nebula

"natural" color version H-alpha
Version with reduced stars -
Last night I shot a new Sharpless catalog object, Sh2-155 in constellation Cepheus.
It's sometimes called the "Cave Nebula" doe the central formations shape,
I can't see the cave there though.
I shot three hours of H-alpha and one and half hours of O-III.
There is very litle of O-III there, but with extreme stretching of the data it was usable.
Image here is a narrowband color composition where H-alpha is Red and
O-III is Blue, Green color is synthesized from H-a and O-III channels.
There is three versions, first with "natural" colors and second with H-alpha only.
Third image is same color image but with reduced stars. The purpose of this image is
to show the nebulosity alone.

Sh2-171

S-II, H-alpha and O-III as a Hubble palette H-alpha, O-III, synthesized Blue as a "Natural" color H-alpha

Sh2-171 is an emission nebula in Cepheus.
I have shot few objects from the Sharpless catalog before, I find them interesting and
not too common as an imaging targets.
Here is three versions, first is a narrowband color version in Hubble palette,
second is a "natural" color version with synthesized green from H-alpha and O-III.
Third, black and white, is a hydrogen alpha channel only.

Veil Nebula, Supernova animation in stereo


This stereo animation shows the origin of the Veil Nebula.
(This time for parallel vision only, it might work for Cross Vision too.)

Star removal technique

In narrowband color imaging star control is essential.
I have developed some time now starremoval technique.
It turned to be very accurate.
Please note, that this is a GIF-animation and image has a lower quality, than original.
Nebula in dense starfield can seen better without stars and
more faint details and large forms comes visible.

Heart & Soul in "natural color"

This version is with more natural colors.
Ionized Hydrogen emits Red light.
The Green channel is synthesized from O-III and H-alpha.

The Heart & Soul in narrowband colors

This beautiful pair is located in Cassiopeia.
Real names are IC1848 and IC1805, but sometimes
they are called "Heart and Soul"

Narrowband color image shows different areas in different colors.
Hydrogen can be seen as Green, Sulfur as Red and Oxygen as Blue.

IC 1396 in H-alpha & OIII light


The home of the famous "Elephants Trunk" Nebula, IC1396is an active
starformation area in Cepheus.After the Veil Nebula I shot 6x1200s trough H-alpha filter and then 3x1200s trough OIII filter. My goal is shoot SII channel as soon as possible and makea narrowband three color image. The Green channel is synthesized from O-III and H-alpha.

Stereo Image Pair of Veil Nebula

- "True" nature of exploded stae can be seen in stereogram. Material has spred to the Space as a ball shape formation. Viewing instructions can be found on the right hand side menu.

This is a test image serie.
In my narrowband technique one processing step is a star removal.
When seen without stars, the nebulosity has a better chance to show up.

There is some SII in Veil Nebula as can be seen in the image.
Same data as previous Veil,
Plus 3X1200s SII.

Here is an image of leftovers of the massive star
explosion, Supernova.
Colors in image are close to real one, hydrogen is emitting Red
and Oxygen is emitting Blue/Green part of spectrum.
Green channel in image is synthesized from O-III and H-alpha.

O-III Veil in 3D-stereo pair images

Since weather do not give any support, I played with a data I have.
Vei Nebula is a supernova remaint. Leftovers from massive explosion
have spred around space. This presentation shows again the "real" nature of this object.
Image is a false color, Blue, since O-III is located on the Blue/Green part of the spectrum.

Veil Nebula in O-III light

Veil Nebula with O-III filter only.
-
This is a start of the new project.
I will shoot The Veil Nebula in two color narrowband,
where O-III is Blue and H-alpha is Red, Green will be
synthesized from Red and Blue.
-
Not a very good star though, at fist night (29.09.) I was able to shot
only three 20min. frames. Thats a way too litle for O-III light.
I'll shoot more , if weather up here ever permits it,
two more hours is needed here, I think.
-
In the final image O-III will be precented as Blue color.
Tokina 300 AT-X @ f2.8, is a very good lens for this target,
the field of view is perfect march for the Veil.

it's interesting to see how far the O-III area really goes.
